My Dad used to say to me when I asked him if he felt old…..” I still feel the same as when I was in my 20’s”. I was about 18, and he was in his early 40’s and I thought he was old then!
I also remember going to my Aunty’s 50th, thinking wow…. that's really old! I'm now in my 60’s and I hadn't really felt like I'm getting older until recently, when I found it harder to get up and down and felt like I didn't have as much energy as I used to…..ohh, and also feeling like my mind was not as sharp and my waistline was not shrinking back like it used to.
So here I am…navigating Aging, which is a very natural part of life, yet I'm not ready to go there!
In my work and over the course of my later life, I have come to understand the importance of being proactive when it comes to our health and well-being, which has led me to learn more about now to navigate midlife and beyond.
Which is a major reason for creating The Menopause MindBody Reset that is being designed to support women through the myriad of physical and emotional changes that go beyond hot flushes and hormones.
I’ve identified 6 key elements that are essential to navigating healthy aging, that focus on sleep, nutrition, gut & liver health, weight & stress management, movement and hormonal balance.
By incorporating these 6 elements into our daily life, we can support our mind and body to live life to the fullest. The Menopause MindBody Reset is a pilot program that will start in June to guide women beyond menopause misery by providing science & evidence-based strategies to manage symptoms, and embrace healthy aging feeling energetic, vital and comfortable in the skin they are in.
During my 12-week Menopause MindBody Reset we will be learning how to…
1. Prioritize Quality Sleep:
Quality sleep plays a vital role in our physical and emotional well-being. As we age, establishing a healthy sleep routine is even more crucial. Quality sleep helps hormone regulation, supports a healthy brain, and gives our body time to heal and repair.
2. Nourish with Balanced Nutrition:
As we age, our bodies need a balanced and nutrient-dense diet to support optimal health. Proper nutrition not only supports our physical health but also positively impacts our mood, cognition, and overall well-being.
3. Support Gut & Liver Health:
Healthy aging means supporting our aging gut and liver so they can do their jobs. A healthy and thriving microbiome means improved digestion and enhanced nutrient absorption. A happy liver means we are still able to clear out the harmful toxins that accumulate over our life, which all support healthy weight management.
4. Regular Movement:
Regular physical activity is essential for healthy aging, in particular our cardiovascular health and joint flexibility. Exercise supports our mental and emotional health by stimulating the release of endorphins and reducing stress.
5. Manage Stress Effectively:
Stress management is crucial for healthy aging. Chronic stress can negatively impact both our physical and emotional health. By giving yourself the gift of time and asking for help and support from friends and family, you’ll be reducing and managing your stress levels.
6. Balance Hormones:
Hormonal changes occur naturally as we age and can impact our overall well-being. By focusing on a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition, exercise, getting regular checkups from your health professional and working on stress reduction, you can support your hormones in the best way possible.
We have the ability to make positive changes in our life and health, however sometimes we just don't have the knowledge. As a Women’s health & well-being educator I’m here to help you to take the stress off the unknown so you can gain back your precious time to live life to the full in the best way possible for you.
